Lessons
Located in Northern California, I offer both private and group lessons. With over 5 years of successful teaching experience I have refined my lessons to not only help my students reach their musical goals but also engage them in fun and creative lessons and activities. I am currently accepting new students interested in taking online lessons. Lessons take place using Zoom. If your interested please fill out the contact form below for rates and availability.
A little about my teaching philosophy...
To motivate a student to learn and witness their growth is extraordinarily rewarding for me. I have developed four goals for my students over the years to cultivate and demonstrate growth and mastery.
The first is for them to develop intrinsic motivation to learn. Inspiring my students and fostering lasting intrinsic motivation are among the most valuable goals that I hold as an instructor. Not only can inspiration and motivation be so closely linked but also key to promoting a student’s learning. I inspire my students by sharing my knowledge, passion and mastery of aspects of music. I further motivate them by providing them with fun and engaging opportunities connected to their unique interests and backgrounds to demonstrate their personal musical growth.
My second goal is for my students to understand music analytically and emotionally while inciting the use of musicology for interpretation. This helps my students understand the music, how it was made, where it came from, and why it sounds so great. Learning the notes is one thing but really understanding the music leads to much better music making.
The third is to demonstrate technical proficiency so that they can convey their musical ideas clearly and effectively. In lessons we cover a range of techniques and styles that will exercise all aspects of playing including strumming, picking, plucking, fretting, and so much more.
Lastly, I help them develop the ability to critically scrutinize their own performance both musically and academically so that they can continue to learn by teaching themselves.
Ultimately, every student, regardless of their background, experience, or privilege can achieve personal, academic, and even professional success as a musician. It is my role and passion to inspire and guide them to this success. Along the way my students not only develop performing proficiency, but also understand music analytically and emotionally. They will develop well-informed and malleable opinions about music, as well as keen abilities to scrutinize their own and others work. In the end, they will become well rounded musicians that will share their own artwork and passion with the world.
